48 hours Novosibirsk is a project of the Goethe-Institut and a number of partners from Novosibirsk, created in cooperation with the 48 Stunden Neukölln festival. It draws a picture of repression and counter-pressure — snapshots from the time before the war of aggression against Ukraine.

In 2021, we created a graphic identity for 48 hours Novosibirsk, an international festival run by Russian and German curators. The festival took over the city for 48 hours, showcasing dozens of cultural events — from studio visits and public installations to exhibitions and street performances.

For the exhibition of the same name, held a year later in Berlin, we had to design an identity that builds on the festival's original visual components while also reflecting an existential threat that the independent art scene faces in times of war.

In the visuals, we use the construction tape from the initial identity but give it a new meaning by tearing it apart. It is a statement about resistance, breaking down barriers and creating art despite the circumstances.
